Vane Shear Testing
The shear vane test is a method of measuring the undrained shear strength of a cohesive soil. The test is carried out with equipment consisting of a rod with vanes mounted to it that is inserted into the ground and rotated. This is an easy test to formulate the shear strength of the client’s soil on site. Here, a vane attached to a torque wrench is buried in the soil, and the torque required to twist the vane by a regulated angle will imply the result.
